"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" so states the first lines of the First Amendment.
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." (Article II, Section I)
What happens when the president, who took that oath, decides he will summarily disregard it? Well we are about to find out again as the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. decides to make his own law for the rest of us.
It started with the takeover of the auto industry and then we got "Obama Care" which is going before the Supreme Court to decide its constitutionality. And now we have the trashing of the "free exercise thereof" clause of the First Amendment.
Forget all the hype about what church is being forced to abandon its core beliefs because it is not the church that is important but rather the principle of the government intruding into the religious tenets of a religious institution.
While the supporters of this intrusion state it is about women's health it is in reality about the pro-choice crowd getting their program institutionalized by the federal government.
Interestingly, in an interview recently on a Fox News show Bart Stupak, former Democrat Rep. from Michigan, the leader of the "Pro-Life" Democrats admitted his disappointment with the latest edict of the HHS.
Stupak made headlines as he held out the needed votes to get the monstrosity called "Obama Care" passed in Congress. He claimed, along with his group, to be against federal funding of abortions and related issues and made headlines everyday as to how he would not vote to pass the Bill unless there were stringent abortion restrictions.
He was the darling of the media as he was interviewed '"ad nauseam" while the battle of the vote for "Obama Care" pressed on. Remember the infamous words of Speaker Nancy Pelosi ……you have to vote for it to find out what's in the Bill."
Well it is abundantly clear that no one who voted for the Bill knew what was in it; to their everlasting shame. Stupak "retired" from his congressional seat because he would have been crushed in the upcoming elections.
Now he is "disappointed" by the president's actions but more than that he should be ashamed for denying his principles for political expediency.
Unlike Pontius Pilate he cannot wash his hands to atone for his embarrassment. Now Stupak says the president, who signed an Executive Order, to ostensibly placate the recalcitrant democrats has the power to fix this mess. The president signed the order which in part states
"Under the act, longstanding federal laws to protect conscience…remain intact and new protections prohibit discrimination against healthcare facilities and healthcare providers because of an unwillingness to provide, pay for, provide coverage of or refer for abortions."
But who cares what it states just remember Rules for Radical…. the rule that the ends are justified by any means.
