A 71-year-old man who went missing for five hours was discovered after he called his wife from a car dealership in Oakland, deputies said.
Robert Cugno, who lives off Ridge Manor Boulevard near State Road 50, went missing at 5 a.m. this morning. An Oakland police officer found him and stayed with him until his wife arrived to pick him up, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Cugno was found less than 40 minutes after the sheriff's office released its missing person bulletin to local media. He called his wife via telephone to tell her he was lost, deputies said.
Oakland is located in Orange County about 40 miles east of where Cugno lives.
Cugno has an irreversible deterioration of intellectual faculties, which requires medication he had not taken with him, according to a media release. He was driving his burgundy 2007 Ford F-150, single cab pickup.
Deputies originally said he may have been traveling northbound along Interstate 75 and in the vicinity of Micanopy. He was actually found about 90 miles southeast of Micanopy.
Cugno is from Connecticut and authorities originally suspected he was headed there, according to the sheriff's office.
