Deputies: Man attacks girlfriend and bar patrons who try to stop him

A man is facing battery charges after deputies say he attacked his girlfriend along with a bar patron and his girlfriend after trying to intervene.

Osvaldo M. Garcia, 30, of Spring Hill, is charged with battery and domestic battery following a fight with his girlfriend Saturday night at the Mermaid Lounge, according to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report.

While at the bar, Garcia slammed his girlfriend's head into the front door and punched her in the face during an argument, the report showed.

Another man inside the bar stepped outside to stop Garcia and his girlfriend followed him.

According to the report, Garcia jumped in his car and drove toward the man. He then jumped out, struck the bar patron's girlfriend across the face and then attacked the man by scratching him on the forehead.

The man responded by putting Garcia in a headlock and taking him to the ground, the report showed.

Following deputies' arrival, Garcia claimed he was, "jumped for no reason." Deputies also noted he was extremely intoxicated.

He was taken to Hernando County Jail where he is being held on a no bond status for domestic battery and $1,000 for two battery counts.
