SPRING HILL A former Nature Coast Technical High School football player was charged with driving under the influence early Saturday morning after telling a deputy he was drinking beer at a friend's house.
CJ Baker, 18, a NCT senior and former Shark's quarterback, was driving a Ford Explorer about 1:24 a.m. when a Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy pulled him over near the intersection of Crescent Road and Marlin Court. The deputy was investigating an earlier incident and determined that Baker wasn't involved.
However, the deputy smelled alcohol on him and noticed Baker had red eyes and slurred speech, according to his report. He said Baker admitted to drinking two beers at a friend's house.
Baker was charged with misdemeanor DUI and taken to the Hernando County Jail where a breathalyzer revealed a blood-alcohol content of .105. Subsequent tests showed .078 and .091.
He was released on a $500 bond.
