Can you believe this? Dallas Dunlap thinks our budget problems are caused not because the government is spending too much but because consumers are spending too little.
My God man, people are holding on by their fingernails. Spend what?
Maybe Mr. Dunlap has a box of hundreds lying around collecting dust, but the rest of us don't. We are trying to find ways to pay the taxes on our deflated house values. Those of us who still have a job are trying to put the fast-approaching $3 a gallon gasoline in our 10-year-old jalopies to get to work before our jobs are outsourced to Mexico or China.
We don't need a trillion dollar health bill or a president whose answer to every problem is spend more money.
We can't spend our way out of this whole mess. We need fiscal responsibility and programs that will encourage business to expand and hire people in this country.
We don't need a party that takes trips to Denmark, stays in four-star hotels, brings the whole family, feeds them caviar, takes in the sites and let's the taxpayer pick up the bill.
I hope this November we remember this type of foolishness and find time to put down our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and add some new names to our 10 percent unemployment.
