The county is off base on charitable events at county parks.
I find it very interesting how the county can say one thing but mean another.
I remember several years ago the county cut out funding for many charitable organizations citing budget cuts, then asked the public to step up and donate to these worthy organizations.
Fast forward to present day and what is going on at Pine Island Park. A local businesswoman starts holding yoga classes for charity, giving all collected money and gifts to reputable local charities. The county says she's running a business and wants 30 percent of everything she collects.
I would like the county to explain how holding a charitable event is a business? I also would ask Pat Fagan how he can interpret a charitable event as for profit, if the quote I read in the recent article is correct? The county cannot have it both ways!
As a voter and taxpayer in this county I've seen tax dollars wasted many times. I can't say that about the charitable organizations I know. They spend money wisely and depend on philanthropic people like the yoga lady.
What better public purpose than to use county parks to help those less fortunate. Wake up Hernando County government (all departments), use some common sense and at least follow your own directives!
