Library hours to be discussed Tuesday by commissioners

County commissioners on Tuesday will once again tackle the question of whether to reinstate county library hours.

Health and Human Resources Director Jean Rags, who heads up library services, will report on the cost effectiveness of taking money out of the state aid to libraries fund to hire additional library personnel.

Given that Hernando County is already facing a $10.7 million budget, now is probably not the ideal time to spend more money on reinstating hours, County Commissioner Dave Russell said.

The county commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.

Also Tuesday:

• Commissioners are expected to discuss Hernando Beach dredge operations, especially ways to get the project back on track so as not to lose more than $7 million in state money to help fund the $7.6 million project.
