Nazdar,
There's a doubleheader today. First on deck is a pork dinner at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on U.S. 41 at 11:45 a.m. Roast pork, vegetables, parsley potatoes, salad, dessert and beverage are on the menu - all for $7 per adult and $3 for children under 12 years of age. All proceeds go to the Food Pantry.
Then at 2 p.m. at the Masaryktown Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue, there will be the annual community meeting with the election of two offices - vice president and director, both are three-year terms.
After the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Jan. 23, at St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on U.S. 41 south of County Line Road, there will be the annual CCD's spaghetti dinner with sauce, pasta, meatballs, sausage, salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage. All plates are $7 per person and tickets are available at the church office during office hours or at the door.
In a couple of days at Curtis Manor, an adult living facility, those residing there were treated to a two-piece duet band by owner Charlene Curtis. Providing the holiday music cheer were Sonney Brewer and Jeanne Gage of Weeki Wachee. They have been strolling around playing the guitar and singing to all kinds of music - holiday, country and western, ballads, romance, gospel, for the past 15 years. You name it; they will play it and sing to it. If you need them, just call 352-597-3302.
Elaine May, former resident, who moved to Goldsboro, N.C., with hubby Solomon May, visited for a week over the holidays with her children, 3-year-old Selina and 18-month-old Joshua. Solomon had to stay home on business. They visited with Elaine's sister Jennifer Lopez and her boyfriend Scott in New Port Richey. Also visited some of Solomon's relatives, the Voscinars, and other friends in Masaryktown.
Melanie Olson and her 3-year-old granddaughter Makenzee Aguiar spent three days and two nights in Orlando at Disney World. They stayed with Melanie's longtime friend Audra (Boettcher) Martinaitis and her husband Lou from Ashland, Ore., along with their two daughters, 5-year-old Taylor and 3-year-old Cameron, and family friend Angelina McMilliam. Audra's sister Lenore, Melanie and Audra used to summer together in the girls' hometown of Appleton, Wis.
The homes of the Olsons and the Boettchers were across the street from each other so their dads, Swede Olson (the late) and Alton Boettcher, grew up together from school buddies through the many years. Who would have thought 30 years earlier when they were 8, 9, 10 that they would be vacationing with their daughters and granddaughters in Melanie's home state. She is homegrown, born and raised in Hernando County. All had a blast and get well wishes to little Cammie who caught a flu virus on vacation in Florida. Audra even brought the girls to visit with moi; it was truly a joyous visit.
Congratulations to Maria Ybarra, who turned 5 years old on Jan. 5. Last Sunday her parents Kesha and L.G. Ybarra hosted her with a party at their home, along with her two brothers Gavin and Jose Ybarra, and older sister Faith. Joining the birthday party were grandmother Faye Ybarra, a couple of uncles, an aunt, and some cousins. All enjoyed the cake, and all had a great time.
Ruth and David Crawford returned last week from a weeklong vacation in Cabo, San Lucas, Mexico. They rented a villa in Monte Cristo. They were joined by Ruth's sister Susan and her hubby Rene Raymundo, their son R.J. Raymundo and his wife Soah Ling. The four of them are from Bloomfields, Mich. The weather was great; they enjoyed the whales, sightseeing and shopping. They all had a grand time.
