Hooray for state Rep. Robert Schenck of Spring Hill.
Finally, someone in the government is listening to his constituents and sees through the farce that people like Chief George Turner of Brooksville and others are using to supplement police duties to raise money on the backs of Florida drivers.
Under the guise of it's "all for safety," this money-making scheme for communities will hopefully die the death it deserves.
Bending the law this way is not legal, and they know it. Finally, maybe it will get exposed for what it is.
Brooksville Police Chief George Turner keeps touting he has the support of the people. If that's the case, let's put it up for a vote and we will see what kind of support these devices have.
Police departments are paid to serve the people and enforce the law.
The only purpose these devices serve is to fill the coffers of city government.
Thanks Rep. Schenck for your guts to take on this topic and also to the judge in Dade County who put the law above the local government and ruled these devices are illegal.
