Census officials are still taking applications for part-time, temporary jobs that start at $11 an hour.
Census Partnership Specialist Leon Armstrong was in town recently to encourage locals to take advantage of the employment, which lasts two or three months.
"It's not long-term for sure, but it is a job," Armstrong said to county commissioners.
Armstrong said interested people should stop by the Hernando County census office at 16228 Spring Hill Drive, just west of U.S. 41.
Armstrong said special consideration will be given to Hernando County residents. The need for temporary workers is great because an all-out push is being made in this county due to previously hard-to-count tracts.
Commissioners gave Armstrong permission to set up a census table at the downtown government center to spread the word about the importance of the census.
Armstrong said he wants to make sure Hernando County is accurately counted so it can get its fair share of the $400 billion of nationwide block grants that will be distributed to counties.
