Elderly woman injured in crash with semitrailer

A 75-year-old woman was airlifted to a St. Petersburg hospital after suffering several broken bones in an crash with a semitrailer, troopers said.

Shortly before 12:15 p.m. today, Mary Jane Barbero, of Brooksville, was crossing Sunshine Grove Road from Chambord Street when the right side of her 1998 Chevrolet sedan was struck by the Cemex truck, which was traveling southbound along Sunshine Grove, said Sgt. Larry Kraus, a spokesman with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Barbero likely sustained a broken hip and other broken bones and was transported via helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, according to the highway patrol.

The crash occurred a short distance north of State Road 50.

The Cemex truck was driven by Charles J. Holland, 36, of Ocala. He was not injured, troopers said.
