A deputy was nearly struck by a suspected drunk driver Monday on U.S. 19.
The incident happened at the Berkley Manor Boulevard intersection around 1:30 a.m. as two deputies finished a traffic stop. They noticed a Hyundai approaching northbound without its headlights on, so a deputy directed the driver to pull over, a report shows.
The car swerved to avoid the deputy as it pulled over and a traffic stop was performed at the intersection. The arresting deputy said the driver, Tracey Brown, 48, showed signs of intoxication and that she failed field sobriety tests.
Brown was charged with DUI.
