A Spring Hill man's refusal to pay an $8 cab fare could cost him at least $750 after being arrested Saturday night.

According to sheriff reports, Michael Thoni refused to pay his tab to Spring Hill Taxi with anything other than a credit card following a night at Legends Pub and Grill. The taxi service does not accept creddit cards after normal business hours.

Refusing to go to an ATM and only offering to pay with a bag of coins - which he refused to count and a deputy believes was worth less than $8 - Thoni was told he was being arrested for petit theft. He then allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in a deputy taking him to the ground.

Thoni was transported to Hernando County Jail on $750 bond on charges of petit theft and resisting an officer without violence.
