Hernando County Jail earns recommendation

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Hernando County Jail met or exceeded more than 400 standards and was recommended for reaccreditation, according to an announcement Tuesday.

Corrections Corporation of America, the company that manages the jail, stated in a media release that an "independent team of professional experts" made the recommendation on behalf of the American Correctional Association.

The jail staff needed to meet or exceed standards in security, food service, fire safety, sanitation, maintenance, health care, education, recreation, visitation, mail, administration and other areas, according to the media release.

The ACA's recommendation shows the jail staff's "commitment to public safety and security," said CCA spokeswoman Melody Turner.

The jail has 876 beds and has been managed by CCA since 1988 and overseen by the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners.
