When people eat burritos, they seldom think of them as anything but a floury tortilla treat filled with refried beans and cheese.
But they can also be considered a deadly missile.
Just ask a 15-year-old boy visiting here from South Carolina, who was arrested Saturday for throwing one out of the window of a moving car, striking a vehicle in the windshield.
John Addie, 46, told sheriff's deputies he was traveling north on Shoal Line Boulevard and stopped to turn on Calienta Street when a white Dodge, heading south, passed him. Addie said a hard object, which he thought at first was a bottle, struck his windshield.
Then he noticed a burrito struck him through the driver's window.
Addie said he saw a male throw it out of the Dodge and he began to follow, only to give up the chase and call deputies after getting the vehicle's tag number.
When deputies arrived, they noticed a chip in the windshield where the object struck and also the contents of a burrito on Addie, the driver's seat and a portion of the windshield.
Addie was not injured as a result of being hit by the burrito, deputies said.
Deputies traced the teen and it was learned that he threw the burrito out the window as a prank.
After being taken to the Hernando County Jail, the teen was transported to the juvenile detention center in Ocala.
