Deron Mikal, Commander of the Brooksville chapter of Disabled American Veterans, was honored recently at the DAV National Convention in Denver.

The honor was for being in the top 10 in the nation for recruiting new members into the National DAV, noting the purpose of its charter for helping veterans and their dependents with their claims for compensation, pensions and benefits.

Mikal was recognized with a special luncheon and $1,000 in gifts along with some $500 in points for which purchases were made to provide uniform dress for his line of officers.

Mikal is now a candidate for the 100-Circle Hall of Fame with the National DAV which is headquartered in Cincinnati, Mikal's native city.

Mikal holds a dual 60-hour masters in political science and public administration and completed some 34 doctoral hours in renaissance and 20th century literature along with advanced grammar, linguistics, semantics, old English and middle English.

He has been a professional veteran service officer since 1991, both for the State of Florida and for the Disabled American Veterans.
