Brown-Waite deserves credit for rejecting health care bill

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I am amazed so many people are blaming U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite for the debacle that passes for universal health care that the House of Representatives passed on a very narrow vote.

I sympathize with the people who wrote in to criticize Brown-Waite for her rejection of this awful travesty of a health care bill, but this would be one of the worst bills ever conceived.

The bill is hundreds of pages long and filled with all kinds of deception. Universal health care would be administered by an army of bureaucrats who would have total control over your lives. Health care would be rationed, waiting for services would be interminable and the taxpayers would be fleeced to support this travesty.

It is no small wonder many Canadians come to the U.S. for health care. The health care in England is a disaster and, can you believe this, Massachusetts has a state health care plan that has run out of money

I am not advocating no health care for people who cannot afford it. But I am warning that the current health care plan would be a disaster.

Can our health care system be fixed? It certainly can, but not by the government. Private insurance companies throughout the United States should be available to compete instead of limiting health care companies only to state borders. And since lawyers love to prosecute doctors for malpractice, doctors are forced to keep an insurance policy for which they pay $40,000 a year. That raises the price of health care because doctors must show that they were not negligent in their treatment so they prescribe every test imaginable. Also, very important, dishonest doctors who scam the system should be held accountable.

Did anyone know that President Richard Nixon submitted a health care proposal that was vastly better then the ones proposed by Hillary Clinton, which cost taxpayers $26 million for an unknown committee that helped write it, and the current universal health care bill, which will cost hundreds of billions?

The Nixon plan was defeated and former Sen. Ted Kennedy was the Democratic attack dog responsible for its defeat. Kennedy later said it was the worst mistake he ever made, (adding that to his catalogue of multi-mistakes).

Health care can be remolded, but not by the government. Medicaid can be boosted for poor people who cannot afford health care, and group insurance plans can be offered to people who are self-employed, low-income earners or not covered by employers.

Please do not blame Brown-Waite for the awful decisions and bills the current administration is making. We are financially at the bottom of the barrel. We can't get any lower.

Remember what President Ronald Reagan said: "Government is not the solution; government is the problem."
