A Brooksville man was killed late Sunday night after his 1996 Ford pick-up collided with a county fire truck off Centralia Road.
Christopher Carl Smith, 26, of Brooksville, was traveling east on Centralia Road when he crossed the center line and swerved into the westbound lane, crashing into the fire truck, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
FHP Sgt. Larry Kraus said he is waiting for the medical examiner to determine if Smith had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Smith had not been wearing his seatbelt, an FHP report said.
Smith, who lives in Brooksville, was pronounced dead on the scene by Hernando County Fire Rescue officials.
The driver of the fire truck, Brian Norrie, 28, and his passenger John Miller, 42, suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from Oak Hill Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
