Editor's note: The following is a letter sent to Ginny Brown-Waite in response to her July 9 newsletter. It is reprinted here at the author's request.
What you don't mention in your letter is that you and your husband either had the insurance or the money available to you to pay for those drugs. Too many Americans have neither.
I have two daughters who cannot currently find jobs and are no longer covered under my husband's health care plan. What should they do?
The problem is for-profit health insurance companies. It is just plain common sense to see that these large corporations have a choice about every dollar that passes through their fingers. The choice is simple and heartbreaking: Should we use this dollar to ease suffering, prolong life, prevent disease, etc. or should we give it to our stockholders?
You said; "I will not sit idly while Democrats put a dollar sign on people's lives. I support everyone having the freedom to choose the health care they want for themselves and their families."
I appreciate your "support" but my daughters need more than freedom to choose. They need a safety net, and they need it now.
Please take off the Republican-colored glasses and do the right thing for all the people of America who are uninsured.
