A DUI patrol Friday night that resulted in 19 arrests, including eight drunk drivers, is being hailed as "very successful."
The Florida Highway Patrol teamed up with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and Brooksville Police Department to place a combined 24 law enforcement officers on the road.
Together they patrolled State Road 50 and U.S. 41 from 7 p.m. until 3 a.m. Collectively, they made eight DUI arrests, two felony arrests, four drug-related arrests, one warrant arrest and four arrests for driving on a suspended license.
They also issued eight citations for seatbelt violations, along with 82 citations for various other violations. Another 63 drivers were given warnings and faulty equipment notices.
FHP Lt. M.D. Hensley said Monday morning that the DUI "wolf pack" detail highlights for the public the number of drunk drivers there are on the road during the weekend.
"There was no special occasion," Hensley said. "It was just a Friday night."
It's important that the public understand how serious drunk driving is, he added.
