County To Hear Ways To Draw Bus Riders

How to market THE Bus to increase revenue and ridership has been a front-burner issue ever since the transit service debuted in 2002.

County commissioners this Tuesday will hear staff recommendations on how to do just that.

Last year, commissioners approved spending $25,000 to partner with Mid-Florida Community Services to launch an advertising and marketing initiative and come up with ideas.

Some of those recommendations are to develop more media advertising campaigns, placing paid business ads on the sides of the bus, conduct meetings with representatives from area communities to identify and attract potential riders and engage local businesses to help promote ridership via the possible sale of bus passes at their workplace.

Also Tuesday, commissioners will discuss a tourism development council audit conducted by the clerk of the circuit court.

The audit did not uncover any major problems.

Commissioners will start the meeting by recognizing the accomplishments of the Springstead Eagles High School boys basketball team, which finished its season 31-1.

Springstead lost to Cocoa High School in the Class 4A Florida High School Athletic Association final.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.
