Two women remained in serious condition Tuesday after they were struck by a car along Mariner Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Anna Rivera, 81, and Nilda N. Sanchez, 57, both of 3535 Portillo Road, were crossing the street shortly after 3:20 p.m. Monday when they were struck by a Ford sedan along the middle turn lane, troopers said.

The two were crossing the street north of Portillo Road, according to an accident report. The intersection does not have a crosswalk.

Both women were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

The driver of the vehicle, Janine E. Miller, 21, lives in the same apartment complex. She was making a left onto Mariner from Portillo, troopers said.

The car was owned by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, according to the accident report.

FHP is still investigating.
