Police seized $145,000 worth of methamphetamine on Wednesday after a brief pursuit and foot chase.

The action started around noon when a police officer attempted to pull over a white Ford SUV speeding along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The SUV continued speeding, however, until it finally came to a stop at 849 S. Broad St., a report states.

Both the passenger and driver bailed out of the SUV and started to run, but they were caught by the pursuing officer, a report shows. The driver, Brian Martin, 25, of New Port Richey, was initially arrested on charges of fleeing to elude and driving on a suspended license.

Police said the suspect's license had 17 suspensions.

A search of the SUV revealed a Taurus automatic handgun, more than a pound of meth, 10.8 grams of the prescription drug Vicodin, marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia, according to a report.

Martin and his 18-year-old passenger, Sedonnia Bass, also of New Port Richey, were charged for the drugs, in addition to a charge of possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony.
