A missing shoelace tipped off a deputy that there was more to a homeless man's story than he was telling.
The deputy was sent to a Mobil gas station on Commercial Way on Tuesday to investigate a suspicious person. He found the suspect, Richard Polaske, sitting behind a trash bin, where he was supposedly "resting," a report states.
The deputy noticed a shoelace missing from Polaske's shoe and also a partially concealed spoon near the suspect's belongings. When questioned, Polaske reportedly admitted that he was injecting prescription painkillers through a syringe.
Polaske, 44, who told the deputy he was homeless, was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
