A central heat and air system will be installed at the Humane Society of the Nature Coast's shelter with $10,000 won in a national contest.
The Humane Society was a top contender for a million-dollar shelter makeover through the social networking site for pet owners Zootoo. It ultimately placed fourth and earned a $10,000 reward.
That money will be used to remodel the cat cottage at the Mobley Road shelter. The building currently relies on a window air unit and one wall unit for heat. While it currently serves its purpose, the outdated units don't adequately keep down utility costs, according to a news release.
A plaque will be created and hung in the Cat Cottage to recognize the Zootoo supporters who made the improvement possible.
