County, concession operator to work out pact

The county will negotiate a contract with Amber Costa for her to continue operating a food and beverage concession area at Stewy's Skate Park in Spring Hill.

Citing what he called a "negative issue in the press," Parks Director Pat Fagan said he and his staff will work with Costa and make sure she follows the rules and regulations of the county ordinance.

Hundreds of residents signed a petition to persuade commissioners to retain Costa, who has been at the park six years. Her contract expired earlier this month.

The county currently pays Costa $300 a month to open and close the gates at the park, located at 6799 Pinehurst Drive. In turn, Costa pays the county $412.50 a month for the concession rights and utility costs.

Fagan said the new contract, if it works out, would be for one year with a two-year renewable clause and a built-in agreement that whoever runs the concession stand must also open and close the gates.
