Report: DUI suspect violates "Move Over" law

A suspected drunk driver was caught when he failed to move over for a cruiser flashing its emergency lights.

A deputy was wrapping up a traffic stop at Commercial Way and Forest Oaks Boulevard around 1 a.m. Wednesday when a pickup hauling a boat passed him by. There was no traffic that would have prevented the driver from switching lanes, the deputy said, so he pulled the truck over.

The pickup's driver, Michael Young, 46, reportedly showed signs of impairment, so he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He refused to spit out his chewing tobacco at the jail for a blood alcohol test, so Young was additionally charged with attempting to falsify the sample, a report states.

Florida's "Move Over" law requires drivers to move away from stopped emergency vehicles when possible or at the least slow down 20 mph below the speed limit.

Knife thrown at live-in boyfriend

BROOKSVILLE Deputies say a woman threw a 12-inch knife and a candlestick at her live-in boyfriend during an argument Wednesday.

The alleged victim told authorities that he interrupted the suspect, Tara Hughes, from spanking their child. Hughes put the belt down and began hitting her boyfriend and eventually hurling a knife and candlestick at him, according to a report.

Hughes, 22, of 1141 Purple Flower Court, was arrested on charges of felony aggravated assault and domestic battery.
