Puddles throughout Brooksville, flooding still a possibility

The area was under a flood advisory this morning and more dangers might be on the horizon as long as the tropical moisture continues to hover over the Tampa region today and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 10:30 a.m., the Airport Industrial Park in Brooksville has recorded nearly three inches of rain since Wednesday morning. By the end of the day, the area could receive four inches or more, said Ryan Sharp, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Ruskin.

"The rain we're seeing is a result of three things - a frontal boundary, the amount of tropical moisture in the area and the typical rainfall we see this time of year," Sharp said. "That frontal boundary basically makes everything collide in one area and it's not moving all that much."

Spring Hill Fire Chief Mike Rampino said his department had not received any calls Thursday morning about flooded streets. A dispatcher with Hernando County Fire Rescue also said there have been no such calls.

Hernando County was under an urban and small stream flood advisory from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. today. Those who live near lakes, ponds, streams or creeks should still be mindful of rising water levels, Sharp said.

Areas to the north and south were enduring worse weather conditions.

A flood watch remained in effect for Levy and Citrus counties throughout Thursday morning.

The rain gauges in the northwest section of Pasco County saw more than five inches of rain, Sharp said.

Heavy rainfall remains in the forecast through tomorrow. The region could start seeing normal summer rain patterns by the beginning of next week, according to the National Weather Service.
