Pocketknife Pulled When Car Sale Goes 'Awry'

A dispute over the price of a car for sale took a violent turn when a man was stabbed with a pocketknife, deputies say.

Deputies were called to 305 Roosevelt Ave. on Saturday afternoon to investigate an aggravated battery. They spoke first with the complainant, George Mercer, who told them that he was stabbed by Nathaniel Williams when a car sale went "awry," a report shows.

Mercer had already paid the suspect half of the $800 price tag for a 1992 Cadillac Deville. When he returned with the rest of the money on Saturday, the suspect had raised the price by $100, prompting an argument outside Mercer's home at 371 Broad St., Apt. 4, a report states.

At one point, Williams pulled out a pocket knife and snapped open the 2 1/2-inch folding blade. Williams reportedly began waving the knife around, then made two superficial cuts and a small puncture wound on the victim's hand and arms.

Williams, 54, was charged with aggravated battery.
