Suspect Volunteers For Arrest After Chase

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A high-speed pursuit late Wednesday night ended with the suspect volunteering to be arrested.

A deputy said he first noticed a red Ford Taurus traveling at an "extreme" high rate of speed on Mariner Boulevard around 11:45 p.m. The deputy caught up with the car at the intersection of Mariner and Landover Boulevard and flipped on his emergency lights, but the car sped up to 80 mph on Landover, a report states.

The chase was eventually called off, but another deputy found the suspect's car parked in the driveway of a duplex at 10289 Clyburn St. No one answered the door, but the neighbor called the suspect, Charles Carpenter, on the phone and asked that he come out.

After a short time had passed with no sight of Carpenter, the deputy rang the doorbell. Carpenter peeked out of the blinds and reportedly said, "I will be out in one moment so you can arrest me."

He emerged minutes later and turned around with his hands behind his back, deputies say. Carpenter, 26, was charged with fleeing to elude.
