Adkins' CPR May Spur Taxpayer 'Tea Party'

Commissioner Atkins' stimulus plan to give $4,000 to $5,000 to buyers of foreclosed homes or first-time home buyers is nothing more than an Obama Stimulus II. Obama promised redistribution of wealth during his campaign, and he is certainly keeping his promise with his stimulus plan.

Mr. Atkins, this is Hernando County and the taxpayers cannot afford your stimulus plan. I offered the suggestion of waiving real estate taxes for two years if the buyers remain in their homes, which could amount to $2,000 to $4,000 or more as an incentive to buy homes. The county commissioners kept approving residential developments even though we already had a glut of homes available. They approved Hickory Hill and Sunrise, which have not even been developed and will add to the existing glut of homes.

If Hernando County has so much money in its pot, then give the taxpayers a tax rebate! If Mr. Atkins continues with his idea of a stimulus plan, he might just see a Hernando County taxpayer "tea party" with protests in the streets.

President Barack Obama has crammed his stimulus plan down our throats, and we have had enough already!

County Fails To Measure Twice, Cut Once

It appears that more haste than thought was used when the dock was replaced at Rogers Park. The old dock was 8, 10, maybe even 12 feet farther into the waterway.

As it looks from the photo, the new "floating dock" is sitting on dry land at low tide.I doubt if many of the larger boats that frequent this ramp will be able to approach the dock for boarding, and these people in the photo in the "bass boat" need a ladder to get up onto the dock!

The county should have done some more homework before this retro-fit was completed. Big bucks spent unwisely. How much is it going to fix this faux-pas?

A Brilliant Evening

It was a brilliant evening Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Tampa Library off South Ashley drive, accompanied by three brilliant people, one after my own sentiments who has been a vegetarian for 30 years and a humanist over traditional faiths.

We attended the American Civil Liberties Union annual meeting at the Tampa Chapter for election of board members and an update by the national ACLU chief lobby official who explained that the ACLU has access to both the Congress and the executive branch. He noted that the issue of fairness and justice to the detainees at Guantanamo was almost word to word the statute language the ACLU provided. He also noted that the Bush administration did not allow access at all to the ACLU.

The ACLU is organized to protect the civil liberties under the Constitution of the United States and that inroads into justice in jails, in sentencing patterns, in abolishing mandatory sentencing along with scores and hundreds of other civil abuses across our institutions will be addressed under the current administration.

To look at ACLU's legislative and executive agenda, google ACLU.org.
