A couple of years ago, I wrote to you in reference to Chik-Fil-A not really respecting their troops like they portray. A veteran of 12 years, 10 at the time, I was home on vacation from Afghanistan visiting my wife for two weeks before I had to leave again. I went to the restaurant where I was given a discount but had it rudely taken away from me once they realized I wasn't in uniform.
Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed.
I wrote a letter to the editor to inform the people of Hernando County that it appeared as if the owners of Chik-Fil-A simply had a "WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" sign outside the window as a facade.
After I left for Afghanistan, I was told that my letter was published, which pleased me a great deal.
A few days later I received an e-mail from the owner of Chik-Fil-A, John Mitten, apologizing for the incident. He also informed me that he officially changed the policies and he welcomed me back for a free meal. I never took him up on the free meal; it just wasn't my motive for writing the letter.
Two years later, I had an opportunity to eat there again and was pleased to see that I had no issues with a discount. I want to personally thank the editor and the owner of Chik-Fil-A for top notch service.
