A man was arrested Monday after he assaulted his live-in girlfriend while she was holding their infant son, deputies said.
Jason Wayne Meyer, 34, was charged with domestic battery and culpable negligence, both misdemeanors.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office was dispatched shortly before 9 p.m. to 1226 Trellis Avenue.
A deputy talked to one of the residents of the home, who is the grandmother of the 3-month-old child. She said the couple was involved in an altercation just as she was taking the baby out of the victim's arms, according to an arrest report.
The victim confirmed the story and told deputies Meyer entered the bedroom in a confrontational manner and she tried to walk out of the room with her son in her arms, the report showed.
As she was handing her son to the other woman in the house, Meyer grabbed her by her hair and pulled her down onto the bed, deputies said.
During the melee, the boy's grandmother was struck in the face, which she said was an accident, according to the report.
Meyer admitted to pulling the victim by her hair, deputies said.
He was being held without bond for the domestic battery charge and a $500 bond was issued for the culpable negligence charge.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating, deputies said.
