Robbing Peter to pay for Paul's health care

Re: "It's your fault," by Charles Fisher in the Dec. 2 edition of Hernando Today.

At first you might get the feeling that Mr. Fisher is just a cranky old fellow who is spouting off nonsense as old folks are apt to do. But if you really read and understand what he is trying to tell us ("the voting public majority"), we all must take action to preserve our freedom and way of life.

He is not speaking out because he is upset. Rather, he is scared for all of us as citizens of the greatest country with the best form of government ever devised. He cries in despair for the America he grew up in!

Let's hope it's not yet too late to prevent disaster and serfdom. We all hear the shouts of others to call and write our representatives and let them know what we are thinking. Some of us do write or call. Most of those who write are usually the "Pauls" that are being supported by the endeavors of the industrious "Peters," who have been robbed to pay for Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid and welfare benefits that the "Pauls" are not entitled to.

Who is shouting for this national health reform that the federal government is jamming down our throats and into our wallets? Certainly not the approximately 80 percent of the population who have medical coverage. The 20 percent that don't work or are illegally in this country are the ones to benefit the most at our expense if these plans are passed.

Mr. Fisher suggests that he has never seen so many "immoral, dishonest, greedy, liars in public office." He has a valid point! In Massachusetts for example, all 10 Massachusetts representatives wrote a combined letter in July to the chairman of the House Commerce Committee, expressing their concern about the redistribution of Medicare funds to provide health care monies. Yet on that infamous Saturday morning, these same representatives voted for the package that will remove $500 billion from Medicare over the next 10 years to provide health care to those who are unwilling to work or provide for their own care.

I salute Mr. Fisher for his letter, and I hope many concerned citizens will wake up, write letters and call their representatives in an effort to save our way of life or vote the old regimes out.
