A 79-year-old woman was hospitalized after a dog attack Thursday night.
Geraldine M. Weddle was walking her terrier mix on a leash along Gold Road when she encountered a 16-year-old boy and his dog, a chow-Labrador mix, according to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
The boy's dog was not on a leash.
It took off toward Weddle and the teen chased after it, according to the report.
Weddle told deputies the aggressive dog began biting her dog and she was knocked down while she was trying to break up the fight.
She was transported to Spring Hill Regional Hospital and a friend took her dog to the Emergency Animal Clinic off Deltona Boulevard for emergency treatment, deputies said.
Weddle's dog might have sustained a severed jugular vein, according to the report.
The case was forwarded to Hernando County Animal Control.
