Prescription pills lead to DUI, deputies say

A motorist with a driver's license suspended 17 years ago was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion that he was driving impaired.

The suspect was driving a white van that attracted the attention of a deputy driving west on County Line Road. The deputy said the van pulled out of Pasco County from East Road and began to swerve in and out of its lane.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop about 100 feet east of the Commercial Way intersection, but the driver, Kevin Conmy, didn't stop, a report states.

The deputy followed Conmy north on Commercial Way until the suspect pulled over at Caribbean Drive. A battery of field sobriety tests reportedly indicated Conmy was impaired, so he was arrested on a charge of DUI.

Blood alcohol tests revealed no alcohol content; deputies say they found prescription painkillers in Conmy's van.

A background check revealed Conmy's license was suspended in 1992 for DUI, according to a report.

Conmy, 46, of Hudson, was additionally charged with driving as a habitual traffic offender and possession of a controlled substance.
