Woman found dead in canal identified

» 3 Comments | Post a Comment

Deputies say a woman found drowned on Sunday in a Hernando Beach canal is Mildred Horner, 80.

A jogger discovered Horner's body while jogging around noon on Hermosa Boulevard. Deputies canvassed the area and, after speaking with neighbors, learned that Horner was last seen working in her yard the day prior. Her house on the 3300 block of Gardenia Drive was unsecured, according to a news report.

Horner, who was badly decomposed, was identified through dental and medical records, along with jewelry that she was wearing.

The medical examiner determined that "numerous" medical issues that Horner had could have contributed to an accidental drowning, a report states.

No foul play is suspected.
