School board to consider expanded gifted program

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The school board on Tuesday will consider ways to meet the needs of more gifted students.

District staffers will present a proposal that would allow students throughout the district to spend one day each week at the Quest Academy gifted center at Explorer K-8 in Spring Hill.

The plan also calls for hiring three new teachers who specialize in the gifted services to help provide a gifted curriculum for students at their home schools.

The district would spend about $316,000 next year for the plan. Officials estimate there are some 200 students identified as gifted that could take part in the program.

The board workshop is slated for 1 p.m. at the district headquarters, 919 N. Broad St., Brooksville.
