A 77-year-old man was hit by a car and killed as he crossed U.S. 19 on foot Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Carl E. Puckett, of Spring Hill, was walking across Commercial way south of the Applegate Drive intersection when he was struck by a 2001 Kia sedan traveling southbound, troopers said.
The car was driven by Charles W. Quinter, 50, of Spring Hill. A 6-year-old girl also was in the vehicle during the accident.
Neither the driver nor the passenger was injured, according to an accident report.
Puckett died at the scene, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
