October will be a busy month filled with many social functions, commencing with the Octoberfest at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the Fellowship Hall. There will be bratwurst, cabbage rolls, sauerkraut, German potatoes, salad, rye bread, dessert and a beverage for $8 for adults and $4 for those 10 and under. For more information, call 796-4066.
Also on Oct. 5, St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will hold a pancake breakfast after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses. On the menu will be scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, orange juice and coffee, for a donation of $3.50. On Oct. 11, they will have a spaghetti and meatballs dinner, with garlic bread, and iced tea or coffee in the Parish Hall for a donation of $6 per person. Tickets on sale after Saturday's 4 p.m. Mass and Sunday after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses. For information, call the church office from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at 796-2792. This will be hosted by the CCD religious instruction classes.
At Holy Trinity on Oct. 18, the Mission Circle is having a flea market/bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be available consisting of soup, hot dogs, coffee or punch. The biggest event - the Annual Masaryktown Independence Day Dinner - will be on Oct. 26 at the Masaryktown Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. The famous Masaryktown marinated chicken with all the trimmings, being served well over 50 years, with Czechoslovakian Kolace consisting of nut and poppy seed rolls. Adults $12 and $6 for those 12 and under; live music.
Lea's Prayers and Postage still needs donations to mail much needed packages to our troops overseas, which cost $10.95 per flat-rate package. So far, $58,000 has been used for the costs. Donations can be sent to Lea's Prayers and Postage, P.O. Box 9000, Masaryktown, Fla. 34604, or dropped off at the Masaryktown Post Office. Items such as combs, brushes, socks, women's hygiene products, razors, shave cream, phone cards, pens, paper, hard candies, wet wipes and flea collars are needed.
The ABC Club is up and beading along. Come join this fun club any Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall. The Awesome Bead Club will teach to make many beaded items for jewelry or home decor. For more information, call 397-3351 and ask for Mona.
