What Planet Is McCain Living On?

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Yesterday's news may not seem important to those citizens who do not have money invested in Lehman Brothers like the state of Florida does - more than a half billion dollars invested in a company that filed for bankruptcy yesterday.
What else will be cut by an already strapped economy in Florida?
When Jeb Bush was governor and decided to invest our money with Lehman Brothers, the company was already being questioned as to its viability. On Monday, McCain said, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong." This is almost an exact quote of Herbert Hoover's comment right before the Great Depression, "The economy is fundamentally sound."
What madness is this? McCain is totally out of touch with the mass of people in this country, with his seven homes and fancy cars. He has said that he was not strong on the economy and needed "to be educated." This statement should scare the heck out of all of us.
McCain seems to be reading from a script, not making any sense most of the time, but merely repeating lie after lie and relying on making the voters think they should be afraid of Obama. He can't run a campaign on the issues because his party, which he has voted with 90 percent of the time over the last three years, has gotten us where we are today.
He says he is a "reformer" so should we believe that all those lobbyists running his campaign are working to put themselves out of business? A friend pointed out the anagram for reform is "more of." McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, not because she is qualified to be vice president, or God forbid, president, but because he couldn't get more than a crowd in the hundreds at his events. She is now refusing to talk to the investigators looking into charges against her for firing of the Commissioner of Public Safety in Alaska. Sounds exactly like the refusals by Bush administration members who are refusing to obey subpoenas from the U.S. Congress.
Somebody please tell me how McCain/Palin differ from Bush! Frank Rich of the New York Times said Monday night on MSNBC Monday "Palin lies with ease about her own record" so should you vote for this inexperienced nobody simply because she is a woman? Even Karl Rove, master liar, on Monday said that the McCain/Palin campaign has gone over the line with the lies they are telling. Good grief, how bad do you have to be to have Rove call you a liar?
Truman once asked how many times some guys have to get hit in the head before they figure out who is hitting them. How hard does it have to get to buy food for your family, to find work when your job has been lost, when it costs more to fill your gas tank than you spend on food for most of the week, when your kids schools see cut after cut, when your neighbors down the street become homeless because of foreclosure, when Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are bailed out and you get the bill to pay (while the two CEOs get multi-million dollar goodbye checks to thank them for their failures)? Lehman Brothers files for bankruptcy but their CEO gets a $22 million dollar retirement package, while some 30,000 workers will be laid off. Will these guys get the pensions they have earned?
I was personally told by Enron employees that their pensions were gone, so may I assume this is also the outcome for these 30,000 workers? Yet, some of us will decide that we will not vote for an African American. Some of us will sacrifice our families and our children's future to keep our bias intact. Some of us will vote into office a third Bush term. You might want to read Paul Begala's book, "Third Term, Why George W. Bush Loves John McCain."
Our country is in crisis! McCain wants to appoint Phil Gramm as Secretary of the Treasury - the very man most responsible for the mortgage failures we see left and right. Did you know that McCain voted against raising the minimum wage 19 times? McCain thinks you're doing just fine. Are you? Are you doing better now than you were eight years ago, with your wages dropping or staying static while gas, food, utilities costs rise beyond your means to pay?
You must put yourself and those you love ahead of any bias you may have. Recognize the many lies you are being told by McCain/Palin are to instill fear and are the only things they can run on, since their party got us where we are. The fact that McCain thinks our economy is "sound" is an orange alert! But will the media let you know that? It sometimes looks as though the most truthful part of a newspaper has become the advertisements!
