Fired Utilities Worker Wants His Job Back

The county public works employee fired last month for asking a coworker for sex, plans to fight for his job.

Michael Silvey, who served as the property management coordinator, has filed a grievance with the county's human resources department to contest his Aug. 28 firing for violating the county's harassment and discrimination policy, interim HR director Jerry Haines said late Monday.

The letter Silvey wrote to the county wasn't available by press time.

According to a document signed by county HR employee Josephine DiViccaro, Silvey called her Aug. 26 and asked for sex. The day before, Silvey made the same request of another woman identified only as Carol, DiViccaro reported.

Both Silvey's direct supervisor and the DPW director will review Silvey's grievance, according to county policy. If both decide it warrants another look, the case could wind up in front of the county's Personnel Advisory Board.

The board would vote and make a recommendation to County Administrator David Hamilton, who has the final say.

Silvey, 58, held his position for two years and earned an annual salary of $53,622.
