Masaryktown Labor Day Event Draws Big Crowd

Nazdar,

Last Sunday's Labor Day musical benefit celebration at the Community Hall was a huge success. More than 200 people enjoyed the varied array of musical entertainers provided by music coordinator Mona Premorel.

Ticket takers were Dolores Newsome and Joe Dwyer, and in the kitchen were Tim Hobbs, Cheryl Atkinson, Bob and Jan Gathje and Debbie Neilson. Mixing up the beverages were Rob Mills and Guy Stokey. All-arounders were Larry Dodson and Niki Levesque; dispensing prizes were Dian Stokey and Dee Mills. This was another presentation from the Masaryktown Activities Committee. Joining the festivities were Sheriff Richard Nugent and his wife, Wendy; County Commissioners Diane Rowden and Rose Rocco and their husbands; and Shirley Anderson, who was representing U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite. The Activities Committee thanks everyone who came and worked to make this event a big success. All proceeds went to Lea's Prayers and Postage to provide the postage for the many packages sent to our troops overseas.

Oops - I had some wrong information on the pancake breakfast at St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. The breakfast will be TODAY after both 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses in the Parish Hall; corrected menu and donation are pancakes, sausages, O.J., coffee - for $2.50 each.

Next Sunday, Sept. 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, there will be a "pulled pork or smoked turkey dinner." Included will be baked beans, french fries, cole slaw, garlic bread, rolls, desserts, coffee, tea or punch. All for a donation of $7.50 for adults and $3.75 for children 10 and under, or family plan for $20. There is also a children's menu of sloppy joes, mac 'n cheese - $3.75 each. Sponsored by the Ministry Center Food Pantry, who feed the needy, which increases weekly; and last week they had 58 needy come in on one day. Gratefully accepting groceries and donations.

At the Kennedy Park on U.S. 41, near the yellow caution light, there is another vendor - "The Village Green," William and Danielle Ford vend natural honey, granola, organic natural products. They will be there on Wednesdays. If anyone else is interested or would like details, call Mona at 352-397-3351.

Greg Blaha and fiancee Shandel were down to visit last weekend from Knoxville, Tenn., where Greg now resides. One of our former local sons, he is here to visit his father Jim Blaha who resides at Evergreen Woods. They spent the weekend seeing friends and checking out the old neighborhood.

Helen Parsolano and her girls Stephanie and Rebecca and Helen's friend David Marcum left last Friday morning on a camping trip to the Seminole State Park campgrounds in Georgia. Intending on staying till Labor Day, but came home early due to the threat of Gustav, still were able to do some kayaking.

Jo Ann and John Grotto have recently returned from Staten Island, N.Y., the old neighborhood. They stayed with Jo Ann's Godchild Angela Rinaudo and hubby John, their children John, Alexa and James. Besides visiting with family members, they traded recipes. Jo Ann left her best recipe for monkey bread, and Angela gave Jo Ann her best recipe for tortellini salad. The Grottos enjoyed eight days of family and fun.
