Heads In The Sand

I have talked to a few older residents in the area and they are not sure how to vote. They read the yes and no columns in this paper and hear the propaganda put out by the Spring Hill Fire Rescue District and read their signs all over town and are confused which way to vote.

The county commissioners said in an article this week they had been keeping quiet about this vote because they didn't want to be perceived as wanting one or the other. This is a bunch of bull. The people in our community look up to these commissioners as being leaders of the community. The commissioners need to step up to the plate. We could care less what their personal opinion is, but they need to tell the community the facts.

If I vote "yes" will my taxes increase and how much? If I vote "no" will they increase? I have reviewed the feasibility study and no firefighter will loose his or her job, and we won't loose our equipment if we vote "no." If these are facts, then what, or should I say whom, is preventing these leaders from stating so in this newspaper? Our county commissioners should not be allowed to stick their heads in the sand or pretend nothing is happening.

Let Experience Lead

Speaking for myself as a 100 percent disabled vet, I have experienced vast improvements in the last eight years in the Veterans Administration. I now have a clinic at Pinebrook for my routine health care needs which, if necessary, can schedule me the same day that I call . All I can say is the VA has come a long way in the last few years and some of the horror stories that you read about are isolated incidents.

I still am an advocate of Sen. John McCain's plan to give me a card that allows me to go to the health care provider of my choice. Sen. Barack Obama has no such plan.

All that I have been hearing lately about the election is that we need a change. I agree, but I don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. I cannot believe that in a critical time like this people want to put their futures in the hands of a rookie when there is an experienced leader ready willing and able.

Come on people let's put the first team in and let t he junior varsity watch and get some much-needed experience.

Character Counts

After watching the presidential debate, I have come away with this one thought about Sen. Barack Obama, which is this: He just does not understand how the economy works.

It doesn't take a genius, only a basic knowledge of economics, to know that during hard economic times you don't raise taxes. Obama's plan basically is to make the rich poorer and the poor richer or as it is commonly referred to: income redistribution.

To all the small business owners out there, basically, if you become too successful in whatever business you're in, Obama will increase your taxes.

It still amazes me how people can be taken in by a man who makes flowery speeches but has little leadership experience. Never mind his lack of experience, what about his character? With his close ties to ACORN, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, not to mention his associations with radicals like Bill Ayres and a racist minister, I am utterly amazed that people don't care about the character of our elected officials, especially in recent presidential elections.

I think it is a sad day for this country when we don't care about the character of our candidates when we go to vote.
