Re: Bob Shulters' letter to the editor in the Oct. 2 edition of Hernando Today.
I would like to remind Mr. Shulters that if he thinks the last eight years have been run by a president who cares about the people of the United States, I do not know where he has been living. Not here, that's for sure.
If he did not appreciate the eight prior years when this country had a president who cared about the people who had elected him, I do not know what Mr. Shulters is looking for, especially if he was not satisfied with reducing the deficit and balancing the budget for several of those years and making sure our country was safe.
In the past eight years we have experienced a war that was for President Bush's ego to show his father he would take care of the business for which he had failed. Bush created a deficit that we will not ever recover from, not in my lifetime or my children's lifetime. It is the same old story: The Republicans take care of the rich, and the Democrats take care of the not so rich. That policy has not ever changed in this country since I was brought into this world. I surely do not want another war monger running this country and spending billions of our tax dollars to support a war that has been useless for this country and continuing to send our troops to defend a country that does not want us there. Did he miss the evening news this past week? They want us to go home.
Hopefully, the next president, who ever he is, will take care of the poor people of this country, making sure they have food on the table and a roof over there heads, rebuild our economy, help bring down the deficit, balance the budget, have good healthcare for everyone, like they do and for God's sake bring our troops home where they belong and make sure you take care of them for the rest of there lives, not what this president has been failing to do.
Who in their right minds would want another four years of the past eight years? I would like a president who would change Washington and not have the same old ways of the past and, surely, Sen. John McCain is not that person. Whether Sen. Barack Obama is that person, who knows, but time will only tell after the next election.
Don't forget to vote on Nov. 4. You'll have your say on who you want to lead this country for the next four years.
