Deputies Break Up Brewing Street Fight

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Deputies dispersed about 30 people armed with various homemade weapons Friday, but not before one person received a two-inch laceration to the head.

Deputies arrived around 7 p.m. to 6549 Talbot Circle, near Pioneer Skate Park, and found the crowd in the street acting violent and preparing for a fight, according to a report.

They would later determine that the fight brewed over family differences and the attack of a teenager earlier in the day.

As Deputy Steven Johnson approached the crowd, he saw 19-year-old Anthony Sardo holding a rusty golf club over his head and advancing toward a group of people, a report states.

When Sardo refused to drop the weapon, Johnson said he "directed" him towards the ground. Johnson was only able to handcuff one of Sardo's arms as the suspect began struggling to escape. The deputy was soon surrounded by several "extremely hostile" men screaming to let Sardo go, a report states.

Sardo was eventually subdued. Three others were arrested because they reportedly refused to obey deputies' commands.

When Sardo was placed in the rear of the patrol car, Johnson noticed a two-inch gash to the suspect's head. Sardo claimed he suffered the wound when the deputy brought him to the ground, but he refused medical treatment at the scene and demanded to be released after receiving six stitches at the hospital, a report states.

The father of the teen who was attacked earlier in the day said he took his son to Sardo's residence to end the violence. That turned into an argument and, as the family was leaving, several cars pulled up and unloaded the angry crowd.

The father said he received a two-inch gash on his head after being struck with a baseball bat; his 17-year-old suffered a bump on the head and a cut lip after a blow to his face with a golf club.

Sardo, 19, of 6549 Talbot Circle, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana, resisting arrest without violence and aggravated battery.

Charged with resisting arrest without violence are: Robert Morning, 19, of 5423 Pillar Ave.; Vincent Sardo, 23, of 6549 Talbot Circle; and Jason Roman, 31, of 9287 Highpoint Blvd.
