A Brooksville man has been arrested in connection with a botched robbery in Shady Hills that ended in fatal gunfire.

Calvin Leon Washington Jr., 19, of 713 Hazel St., was taken Saturday to the Land O' Lakes Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Pasco County investigators were led to their suspect by the testimony of two people who claimed that Washington and two others admitted to the Oct. 16 robbery at 18236 Oxenham Ave. just south of the Hernando/Pasco line.

Washington reportedly told detectives that he and two others went to a trailer at that address around 5 a.m. with the intention of robbing the victims of their drugs and money.

They climbed through a rear window, but were confronted by the residents, Cory Evans, 21, and his cousin, Kenneth Evans, 25. Washington and the other suspects opened fired, fatally shooting Cory Evans in the head and seriously injuring Kenneth Evans with three shots, a report shows.

One of the other suspects was shot in the back and seriously injured, so Washington and another suspect drove him to nearby Spring Hill Regional Hospital, a report shows.

Neither of the other two suspects is named in Washington's arrest affidavit.

On Saturday, Washington led a detective to the shooting site and was subsequently arrested, a report shows.
