Schenck Keeps House Seat

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Rep. Rob Schenck easily won a second term in the state House on Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

The Spring Hill Republican had 53 percent of the vote in the race for District 44. Jason Melton, the Democratic challenger, had 40 percent; and Sarah Roman, a Green Party candidate who did little to no campaigning, managed 6 percent.

Schenck won handily in Hernando County, taking 53 percent of the vote here, too. The district is comprised of most of Hernando and portions of Sumter and Pasco counties.

Melton, a Spring Hill attorney, took the place of Brooksville businessman Joe Puglia, who left the race after his wife fell ill. Melton came in too late to get his name on the ballot.

During his abbreviated campaign, Melton criticized Schenck for taking money from corporate interests without doing much for the district.

Schenck countered that he has worked to reinforce economic development and bring businesses to Hernando since his time on the county commission. He touted his role in property tax and insurance reform and said he would push for more if re-elected.

Florida House District 44

Robert Schenck, Republican (Incumbent): 53 percent.

Jason Melton, Democrat: 40 percent.

Sarah Roman, Green Party: 6 percent.
