Microchip Glitch Delays Security Update

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

BROOKSVILLE - A microchip glitch has indefinitely delayed the final phase of a security overhaul at the downtown government center.

Crews spent the weekend readying the main lobby for the installation of metal detectors at the main entrances. The plan is to streamline entry and do away with security searches at each floor.

But an entrance for the handicapped is still necessary and for that officials planned on rigging only one elevator to travel to the bottom floor. That part of the formula isn't working because of a snag with microchips, said Pat Fagan, director of parks and facilities.

The problem was discovered over the weekend and the California-based company providing the software couldn't be reached until 11 a.m. Monday.

There's no timetable at this point for when the system will go online, Fagan said.
