Developer Pulls RV Resort Request

BROOKSVILLE - The developer of a proposed RV beach resort in Hernando Beach has withdrawn his request.

The issue, which met with displeasure from scores of beach residents at an earlier planning and zoning meeting, was supposed to come up at Wednesday's Land Use Hearing.

The proposal was expected to draw large crowds Wednesday from people who feared the resort would destroy animal habitat, interfere with hurricane evacuations, cause traffic congestion and disturb their rural tranquility.

There was no word on whether the developer, Dial One LLC, would bring the request back at a future meeting.

The 100-space RV resort was planned for 24 acres on the northwest corner of Osowaw and Shoal Line boulevards.

There is only one other agenda item scheduled for Wednesday's Land Use Hearing: A permit request to sell plants, fruits and vegetables from a site along the east side of Manecke Road.

Planning and zoning commissioners in April voted unanimously to deny the permit request, citing the isolated location and poor access.

The Land Use Hearing begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.
